What DataBase features for a DWH should I look for.

I am trying to select the proper database product for our yet to build DWH.

What are the most important product features to look for in a DWH database and why?

Ofcourse we will also look for general items like availability, scalability en existing knowledge in de organisation.

All of the major players to those things, e.g. Teradata, DB2, Oracle, and SQL Server. The drivers come down to usage. Huge amounts of data, normalized data, statistical analysis, and lots of money companies, tend to choose Teradata. A lot of data, dimensional and relational, lots of money, some statistical analysis, companies tend to choose Oracle or DB2. Everyone else chooses SQL Server except for the boutique shops using columnar or some other technique.

What are you trying to build? How much data? What industry? What service levels?

Most companies start with what they currently use and it works out fine (unless you are using mainframe DB2... ugh!). Familiarity with a particular DBMS goes a long way to smoothing the path for a successful first go.
