DataModelling - Organisation definition Empty DataModelling - Organisation definition

Hi

I am in the process of modelling an transactional system, where the transaction happens b/w a supplier and manufacturer. I have created a single entity "Organisation" which has both supplier and manufacturer. ( As both are legal entities). Is this approach fine ? or should i consider modelling it as separate entities ( manufacture & Supplier). My concern is creation of a role playing dimension in SSAS or other BI tools to differentiate in reporting and also ease of identification for end users.

Do let me know your suggestions.

Hi,

we can keep the supplier and manufacturer in a single entity as many times they have the common attribute. Many times a supplier will be manufacturer and a manufacturer will be supplier.

thanks

A single entity is fine. You would simply have two role based keys on the fact referencing the appropriate organization as supplier and as manufacturer.
