Hi guys this is my first time posting on the group as I have been assigned a search mandate to look for a senior Data Modeler/DW Architect for a fantastic role in Scotland!

I know not your usual posting given the location of the forum however Scotland being a beautiful country (although i am biased) I am delighted to be given this opportunity to search internationally for this great role. I am happy to share details of the client and the company however in this first instance i will share the details of the role below: If this role and location is not relevant to you i would greatly appreciate you passing it onto any friends and colleagues who this may be of interest to you.

Thanks in advance:

Working as the data architect for the Enterprise Data Hub (EDH). EDH is a core component of the technology architecture of the division, providing both real-time and historic data for a variety of purposes to different applications. The system provides a variety of interfaces for the data – web services, file extracts, messaging (MQ) and data marts. The system is 24x7 and has the most stringent non-functional requirements.

The role holder has responsibility for the design and evolution of the data model (working with dedicated data modellers), as well as the technical architecture of the platform.

Core accountabilities
• Data Analysis and Modelling – Working with the business and data analysts in the EDH team, as well as the key stakeholders, drive out requirements for data from consumers and understand how these map onto the data within the warehouse, and within the systems that feed the warehouse. Use this information to drive the data modelling activities both to the relational and XML models. This will require being proactive in understanding the requirement of the service consumers as well as the capabilities of the data providers.
• Manage the data governance forum – the data model for the EDH is tightly governed and the role holder will chair the meetings of the data modelling governance forum
• Technical architecture – drive evaluation of the technology architecture to support new requirements and improve existing capabilities. Drive a world data class platform using innovating and cost effective technologies.

Supervisory responsibilities
The data modellers and solution architect report to the role holder.

Key clients (internal and external)
Development Manager, Project Managers, Business Managers and colleagues.

Role requirements
The right candidate will have first class verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will have experience working in a data-intensive project such as a data warehouse or the implementation of a service-oriented architecture.

A key part of the role is the understanding and modelling of the data from the various systems that feed the warehouse, into a suitable canonical model. The role holder will not carry out these activities on his or her own, but will lead the team doing this and will have significant intellectual capital invested in the process. As a wealth management organisation, this data spans many different asset classes (cash, equities, bonds, structured products, derivatives) therefore a strong background in multiple asset classes (particularly from a reporting perspective) is highly desirable. These systems may be settlement platforms or trading platforms.

The overall architecture of the platform will be the responsibility of the role holder. The group constantly strives to innovate using both commercial and open source technologies. The role holder will be expected to create a compelling road map for the future direction of the platform. Therefore the role holder should have a strong interest in data technologies and be fully aware of new developments in this space.

Professional/technical experience
The role holder must be able to demonstrate expertise with the following technologies:
• SQL (ideally in a data warehouse environment)
• XML
• Messaging middleware (IBM MQ or similar)
• SOAP web services

The following specific technologies are highly desirable although not essential:

• Microsoft SQL Server and related products
• BIML (and Varigence MIST)
• Apache CXF
