ETL tool choice

We are currently investigating if we want to replace our hand-coded ETL-system by an ETL tool. If we go for a tool we of course have to choose a tool. Is the following [url=etltool]http://www.etltool.com/[/url] worth the money ?

We purchased this report earlier this year. We were planning on doing an ETL selection and wanted to get up to speed quickly with what functionality was common and what made products different. The rationale for buying this was it was cheaper then getting an ETL consultant to give us the same view. And ETL consultants tend to have a favourite product or products that they, conciously or not, tend to gravitate to.

The document breaks ETL vendors into four groups: Pure ETL products, database integrated, BI integrated and niche products. While it covers the high-level functionality, it doens't go into great depth.

If you know little about the various products and are unsure exactly what you want, it's worthwhile. Otherwise, you may be better off googling the vendors you're interested in.

Or get Gartner's magic quadrant for ETL tools. If you dig hard enough you can usually find the report for free. That should get you started on a shortlist of vendors to bring in-house. All the major players are happy to do an in-house POC.

We have the Gartner's magic quadrant for ETL tools, but the ETL report seems more detailed and also gives a second opinion.
