Conceptual question: MOLAP
Hallo everyone,
I am using Oracle DB to build my datawarehouse. Untill now, I always use the ROLAP technique. Therefore, the star schema must be modelled before.
I have a question regarding MOLAP technique:
If I want to use MOLAP technique(saving the data in multidimensional structure from the beginnig), do I need to model the star schema first? Does MOLAP need star schema actually? If not, how can I modell my datawarehouse logically, so that I can choose the attribute I want to be showed in the reporting, just like in the case of ROLAP?
Thank you for your comments.
Regards,
Ratna

Re: Conceptual question: MOLAP
You are always better off building a dimensional model. MOLAP is great, but not always suited to all reporting requirements.
Besides which, every OLAP tool I know works better on a dimensional model.
