Question asked about ETL (little explanation needed) Empty Extract, Transform, Load

Post  Alan Musnikow Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:38 pm

In my experience, the "T" in "ETL" is an abbreviation of "Transform", not "Transfer."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extract,_transform,_load has an article that starts with the following.
Extract, transform and load (ETL) is a process in database usage and especially in data warehousing that involves:
  • Extracting data from outside sources

  • Transforming it to fit operational needs (which can include quality levels)

  • Loading it into the end target (database or data warehouse)
