Handling new grains for an existing model
I have this ER model which has parent-child relationship that is too deep
Project -< Project Bldg -< Bldg Inspection -< Inspection Results
Since the grain in this case is the inspection results which cannot be broken down further, we build one fact table and all the dimensions. A year later the business process is enhanced to have one more child table to the flow. So now the ER model looks like
Project -< Project Bldg -< Bldg Inspection -< Inspection Results-< Violation
Now the grain in this case is the Violation. Does this mean that I have to build one more fact table or modify the existing fact table to accommodate this change?
Thanks

Violation sounds like a dimension to me.
