Always link date fields to Date Dimension?
Hi,
yet another question:
It is clear, that a date dimension connected to a fact table totally makes sense.
But how about when you have date information in other dimensions? Would you all link them to (views of) the date dimension? Or would you only link them to the date dimension if analysis based on the data in the date dimension (weekday, calendar week, ...) is necessary?

Generally, no. Dates that are just dates (effective/expiration dates, for example) should be stored as dates. If the date has such meaning that date dimension attributes are required, it is questionable wither the date should be embedded in a dimension or placed as an FK in the fact.
