fact table with multiple units of meassure
Hi,
I have to report on total usage in my fac table. the challenge is that the unit of measure can be expressed
in kwh,kw,kvarh etc. what would be the best way of modeling this?
Total Usage
Unit_Of meassure
or
Total Usage
KWH
KW
KVARh
as columns in the fact?
thanks,

Re: fact table with multiple units of meassure
Is not KWH the consumption unit? KW is not a consumption unit, it is a measure of power at that moment. You really can't convert between them. If you are actually receiving multiple measures in different units, for example one would expect a KWH consumption value and a Peak KW value for the reading period, then these are not the same thing and it would make sense to store them as separate measures. Talk to people at your office, find a SME, they should be able to explain to you what the numbers represent. They are not equivalent measures.
