Where to Begin, which Kimball Group Book
Hello,
I'm a carreer Oracle DBA and developer, and interested in business intelligence stuff. I bought the toolkit classics box set of books and the Reader one too. I'm less interrested in the managements stuff, but want to begin correctly in the field of dimensional modelling and doing ETL stuff. I looked at each books and don't know where to start... It seems that each book has a kind of dimensional modelling basics chapter. It confuses me a little...
So, where to start, how to advance?
Thanks
Bruno

start with The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit. Then you can focus on either The Data Warehouse Toolkit or the Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit. If you are looking for more focus on dimensional modeling, The Data Warehouse Toolkit is the book to go through. Also, I found it beneficial to just start designing and building, then asking questions here when specifics get cloudy.

Lifecycle deals with the project aspects while Toolkit is more focused on the technical aspects. Choose your poison.

Hi Bruno and welcome to the light side,
I'd recommend the Core Concepts section of their website, before starting on the books:
http://www.kimballgroup.com/data-warehouse-and-business-intelligence-resources/kimball-core-concepts/
I think it's a more concise summary.

If all you need to do is query it, there isn't that much you need to know. The basic premise behind a star schema is it is easy to use. If you want to get into DW development, then start with Kimball's DW Toolkit.
