Similar measure in fact table
I have a scenario at work where our finance department wants to see two different version of one measure, one is for internal use and one is for external use.
The scenario is our company must make a royalty payment for using a digital encoder for every product we sell.
Our supplier will see 1% of this and the finance department want it to be 2% for calculating their Profit and Loss.
I am trying to figure out if this data should live in the same fact table and one is called MP3RoyaltyInternal and the other is MP3RoyaltyExternal.
I have more examples like this whereby the fiance dept want their version of only some of the facts.
Is having multiple definition of the same fact advisable or will it get too confusing?

It could be confusing, but I would still put it in the same fact table. I would look to views or the BI tool to ensure only the right metrics are exposed to the right groups.
