Fact modeling for DVD Rental Shop

I everyone, I'm having an issue with modeling fact table that need advice here

Currently I'm building reporting system for a DVD rental shop. When the customer rent a DVD, the system would create a record in database, and when he return it, the system would update return time on that record.

I'm going to create 2 fact table, 1 for rent action, 1 for return action. What do you think about this approach? Will it work? Please give me advice on this issue.

You do need two fact tables, just not the two you described. You need a transacation fact to hold all of the customer transactions, rent, return, buy, etc. And you need an accumulating snapshot fact table to track rentals from start to end.

And do it quick... DVD rental shops won't be around much longer.

I would just do as you said, it's simple request with simple reporting forms anyway.
