Hybrid Architecture
Hi,
When do we use a hybrid model? i.e. a 3NF in EDW and dimensional data marts together? What would be the business scenarios?
thanks,
Niranjan

Re: Hybrid Architecture
It is an Inmon Architecture approach. It is not a 'hybrid'. This approach has its proponents and can be successful.
hybrid architecture
in DW Tool Kit Third Edition, Chapter 1, Page 9 -
Hybrid architecture is defined as the marriage of Kimbal and Inmon CIF architecture.
Basically EDW will be in 3NF but the data marts will be in dimensional form.

Re: Hybrid Architecture
Whatever. It is basically the architecture Inmon proposed over 20 years ago. His belief is an EDW should be a comprehensive repository built as a 3NF database. Users would not access the database directly, but rather data would be published into data marts. These may be dimensional models, cubes, data extracts, ect. Using the term 'hybrid' is a political one for those who don't want to admit they are implementing an Inmon architecture.
Re: Hybrid Architecture
LOL. They're trying to avoid Inmon's incessant need for trademarking data warehousing terms.
