Question about onformed Dimension Empty Question about onformed Dimension

Post  DW_Beginner Sun Nov 15, 2009 3:02 am

Hi,

I have product Dim, Time Dim and customer Dim tables in Sales data mart and Inventory data mart. These 3 are conformed dimension, but, does it mean that I should not store additional attributes like "product start date" and "product expiry date" in the same PROD_DIM table? should I got for a PROD_DIM history, inorder to maintain the conformed dimension on PROD_DIM?

Thanks,
DW Beginner

sounds like a type 2 slowly changing dimension, with a start and end date for the range the row is valid.
You should also include a currently valid boolean flag to speed operation.

A dimension is conformed if the context provided by the dimension is applicable to all facts that use it. Does the addition of these attributes materially affect the context the dimension, or does it mearly add additional information not provided before?
