steps to design Data Architecture
Hi folks,
I have been following this forum from past 6 months and it had helped me lot.I would like to thank you all and appreciate your time in discussing about various topics.AND THIS IS MY FIRST POST IN THE FORUM. I am in to data modeling from past 6 months. Now I got an opportunity to build a data ware house. I would like what are the steps to be consider build a data architecture for the data warehouse.
Could you also please suggest me a book where I can find the information on how to build a data architecture?

Re: steps to design Data Architecture
Hi, Winny,
We're glad you've found the forum to be useful. Your question is a bit broad to answer here, but it sounds like you are looking for what we call the enterprise data warehouse bus architecture, or the bus matrix for short. Here are some Kimball Group references to get you started:
the Data Warehouse Toolkit, 2nd Ed, (Wiley, 2002), pages 78-88
the Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit, 2nd Ed, (Wiley, 2008), pages 248-253
The Matrix - a 1999 article by Ralph in Intelligent Enterprise
The Matrix Revisited - a 2002 update by Margy
Divide and Conquer - a description of how the bus matrix and conformed dimensions are required for distributed data warehouses.
This should keep you busy!
