Good book for a SQL Server Cube newbie
Hi
I am about to start learning and using Cubes in SQL Server 2008 R2. To that end, I am looking for a book to teach me about Cube:
- Architecture
- Modelling
- Programming (MDX)
- Reporting
- Best Practices
Thanks

Re: Good book for a SQL Server Cube newbie
For starting out, I'd recommend the MS Step-By-Step books for Analysis Services and MDX. Those are good for getting a grasp of the fundamentals and walking through some examples.
Once you've got the basics down, I'd recommend these books for advanced topics and best practices:
Expert Cube Development with SSAS 2008 by Russo, Ferrari and Webb
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services Unleashed by Irina Gorbach, Alexander Berger and Edward Melomed
There are also several excellent white papers that the SQLCAT team has put out. SSAS Performance Guide and Operations Guide are very helpful ones.
Hope that helps.
