Where do we start the Bus Martrix with ?

Should this be based on the business process or each department/business groups in a large business unit ?
Where do Subject Areas Originate ??

Subject areas come from the business but it should not dictate the scope of the data warehouse. For an enterprise data warehouse to exist, there needs to be an understanding that the design and implementation of the data warehouse should be done with the entrprise in mind, and not a specific requirement coming from the business area. While it is critical the project satisfy the immediate requirements, it must also be done in a manner so that future requirements are satisfied as well.

The problem is that in many large corporations, it is common to have the department head control his/her budget, so any spend on the data warehouse centers on their direct cost. What need to be done is have some corporate sponsortship, so that the additional cost to perpare the data so it can be integrated with the rest of the organization, is borne by corporate and not the department.

We have a Distribution group who has spent last 3-4 yrs to build a Distr-DWH.
Now, the Transmission business group is going to kick start Trans-DWH

How do we control ? The Line of Business is different ?

Control what? The business has to control it and the approach depends on their level of maturity. You can only recommend and hope for the best.
