Separate dimension or dimension attribute
Hi
I have dimension say dimProduct
and product has its product type and its riskBand
now should i put them in product dimension or separate dimension table e.g. dimProductType, dimRiskBand.
Basically, how to decide if those belongs to dimension or should exists as separate dimension.
from reporting perspective, user will analyze data by product, its type and by riskBandType also.
Thanks,
Kuldeep

Re: Separate dimension or dimension attribute
If product type or risk band actually describe part of the fact, (example, order line item) separate from the product, then they would be separate dimensions. I don't see this as what you are describing.
You state Product has its ProductType and Riskband. Therefore they are attributes of the product dimension.
