Business Intelligence Software
Bloomberg recently conducted a survey of 930 businesses across the globe to provide insight into the state of business analytics in organisations today.
Business analytics is still in the “emerging stage.” While analytics has gone main stream, most organisations still rely on traditional technology. Spreadsheets are the number-one tool used for business analytics.

Pretty much what I have seen in a lot of places… refreshing to see a real survey without all the marketing hype. Business at the high end of the maturity scale are few indeed.
I've also noticed it is very common in SAP shops. The ERP system has a feature that allows a user to easily extract a report into a spreadsheet. It has become the de-facto method for a department to do analysis as to avoid the cost and time it takes to get it into/from BW.

Re: Business Intelligence Software
In my case, management and customers see the value of quick and easy access to accurate data. However, they are unwilling to spend money and human resources. Spending time on manual reports seem to be less expensive for them.
A culture of using data for decision taking is very important.

Re: Business Intelligence Software
I've been very impressed by Alteryx. It offers an approach to Analytics similar to SSIS' approach to ETL, but with much more end-user capability.
(no commercial relationship, just like the software)
