Data Warehouse Vendor
Hello there,
I have a question concerning the implementation of a data warehouse in a confectionary company by a vendor that is specialized in Banking industy "data warehouse".
My question is; What are the impacts of such an implementation, since the vendor has an extinsive experience in Banking "data warehouse". On the other hand, no previous experience in confectionary industry data warehouse.
Any reference is appreciated for banking or confectionary data warehouses.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Data Warehouse Vendor
Well, a lot of times banks will have little candy bowls on the loan officer's desk, so I guess there are similarities...
Wither this works or not is going to depend on how much time you (or more accurately, the business users in your organization) are willing to put into specifying what you want and provide a good explanation of your source systems, your processes and your expectations.
I've worked in both areas (CPG and banking) and, quite frankly, can't think of a more divergent pair. Make sure their lead architect is someone who understands your business and watch them very closely. Too often companies rely too much on decisions being made by the contractors and you wind up with something way off the mark.

Re: Data Warehouse Vendor
If the vendor is reputable and good at what they do (build data warehouses) I would not be as concerned about their lack of subject matter expertise in banking, hopefully your organization will be the subject matter experts.
On the other hand if their only claim to fame is building banking data warehouses you might have cause for concern.
Why was the vendor selected in the first place (merit, someones friend, cheap rates, etc.)?

Re: Data Warehouse Vendor
The reason is quite simple .... and obvious as well
No other vendor has an experience better than this one in data warehousing projects, and no specialized vendor in the confectionary industry is available.
So we had to choose among several alternatives, and this is what we got finally ...
From an analytical point of view, what are the main points that might differe, or make a difference, please elaborate.
Thanks in Advance.

You've definitively identified the best DW vendor? How'd you do that?

Re: Data Warehouse Vendor
If the reason is obvious why are we having this discussion?
If you are sure you have the best "DW" vendor and the only drawback is they are not strong in your specific industry they should be able to more than compensate for that using their similar experience from other industries combined with your internal subject matter expertise.
